Jewel & Esk College
Jewel & Esk College established a partnership with the Bright Business Partnership (formerly Essential HR) in 2007. The partnership aims are:
- to reduce the potential gap between skills learning and recruitment needs
- to enable businesses to grow and develop through the establishment of mutually valuable sustainable relationships between the College and the local business community
The initial market research project hoped to achieve a clearer understanding of the employment skills local companies require from prospective employees.
We are now exploring ways in which the College can work with local employers to deliver employability skills to their students in ways that will maximise the benefits to both.
Student placements offer companies an excellent opportunity to access fresh ideas and new skills that can impact positively on business performance.
- Students provide companies with a cost effective, short-term skilled resource.
- Students are enthusiastic, eager to learn and open to change, increasing the drive within a company.
- Engagement with students allows employers to see potential recruits in the workplace environment and assess their suitability, reducing the costs to the employer in comparison with other forms of recruitment.
- Employers can gain a better understanding of the value of the qualifications students and future employees are working towards.
